How to make your ecommerce business carbon net neutral.

Introduction

Why should I make my business eco-friendly?

First of all we need to help the environment in every way possible so that we can stay living the way we do now, and it would also be great for your business. And gives you fantastic marketing potential. For instance if your selling paper, and you focus on being eco-friendly you could gain flocks of people willing to buy your product because you made it a bit eco-friendly.

3. Packaging

You have probably heard of this one before. But its true, keep your packaging completely recyclable, not terracyclable, or anything like that, recyclable and clearly labeled so. However, plastic-free is the best option and should be able to be used in most situations, this would also look better from a marketing front. Being able to say plastic-free packaging all over your website could be a game changer.

2. Delivery

Yes I know this might sound like a pain but this is one of the best ways to reduce your company’s carbon footprint. Yes you might need to change courier and that might be quite a bit of a pain, but it really is worth it, since one fifth of all carbon emissions globally are account of transport, it is crucial to the environment that your vans or trucks, or whatever you use to deliver your product is an ev (Electric Vehicle). Even if ut is th last mile delivery that you are able to change. There are loads of small eco-friendly couriers for last mile delivery in citys across the world. And if you do follow this step you could have even more marketing opportunities. Imagine a picture of an electric van driving by on your website being able to state those are the vehicles we use for delivery, it could could drive so much more traffic (sorry about the bad pun) to your products than ever before.

1. Overseas

Now this one you almost definitely won’t do. DO NOT SHIP OVERSEAS! Told you you probably won’t do it. There are hardly any electric boats or aeroplanes anywhere, and certainly not any affordable ones for businesses. So, the only real option if we want to survive climate change is to not ship overseas. Even if you only take off a couple of countries it’s stoll making a difference. For instance if your based in the UK, and you ship to Finland, but you only get a couple of sales there every six months, ditch shipping to Finland. It’s that simple. You won’t be preventing that much profit and you’ll be saving the environment in the meantime!
