What Is Rapha: The Cycling Superbrand
Cycling used to be a cult and scarcely talked about sport, with only oddballs daring to venture out onto the open road. There was no cycling industry, no need. However, this all changed when Rapha entered the game.
You may have heard of Rapha, the cycling brand rocking the fashion world. Being such early adopters of the road cycling industry they were able to ride the boom like no company ever before.
Their powerful brand makes them a go to for not just cycling sportswear, but streetwear and fashion altogether. They are known for being high end and loyal to their fellow cycling community.
They are often compared with marmite, a halfway split between lovers and haters due to their high prices and intuitive design, a bit like Apple. Simon Mottram, the founder, has been quoted saying “Some people love us, and some people don’t, and that’s fine, but our stuff is really good and if someone is going to spend eight hours on a bike then their clothing should be very good.”
Lots argue that cycling fashion should be seen in the exact same light as other top end fashion markets, with some dubbing Mottram as the fashion police of cycling.
They aren’t just focused on the overwhelming world of clothing though. In most of their stores you will be able to find a leisurely place to eat or drink to your heart’s content after a tough day out on road.
